Who doesn’t wish for it: three magic drops every day, and nervousness, fatigue, and tension fall away from you. Is it that simple? What can CBD oil do, and what can’t it do?
The abbreviation CBD stands for cannabidiol, which is extracted from the hemp plant. However, hemp should not be confused with marijuana. CBD is extracted from fibrous hemp, which contains no or minimal THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). While THC causes intoxication, CBD has no psychoactive effects.
CBD oil is legally available in many countries. In Germany, CBD oil does not have approval as a medicine, but it is still attributed with numerous positive effects. For the legal situation in the US, I can recommend the following article by Aaron Cadena “Is CBD Legal? The Legal Status of CBD in 2020.”
History and origin of the hemp plant
Hemp is one of the world’s oldest crops. It has been used for more than 10000 years and cultivated for at least 3000 years. It is known that already about 5000 years ago, in China, textiles were woven from hemp. More than 2000 years ago, people made the first paper from hemp. Today the textile industry still uses it: clothing, yarn, and canvas are made from hemp. The advantage of hemp over cotton is that it is more tear-resistant but, at the same time, soft and comfortable to wear. Hemp is also used as a foodstuff. Hemp seeds, in particular, are trendy and are now available in many supermarkets.
Hemp also plays a vital role in medicine — here in the form of CBD oil. It is used, for example, in the treatment of diseases such as ADHD, depression, Tourette’s, and cancer.
CBD oil is said to have various effects. Among other things, it is said to contribute to relaxation, be antispasmodic, reduce anxiety, and positively affect nervousness.
Meanwhile, studies have found that CBD affects various receptors. Cannabinoids can basically be said to have an antioxidant effect. They scavenge free radicals and thus reduce oxidative stress.
CBD is also considered to have analgesic properties. When CBD stimulates the joke receptors, an analgesic effect occurs.
In animal studies on mice, scientists found that CBD can reduce inflammatory and neuropathic pain.
It is also known that CBD activates the 5-HT1A receptor. The 5-HT1A receptor is a serotonin receptor that affects learning processes in the brain and spinal cord and is also responsible for regulating body temperature and other effects. When the receptor is activated, mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression can be effectively treated.
CBD is also used in the treatment of epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, as well as drug withdrawal.

Khalid A. Jadoon, Garry D. Tan, and Saoirse E. O’Sullivan found in a study that CBD lowers blood pressure: “A single dose of cannabidiol reduces blood pressure in healthy volunteers in a randomized crossover study”.
The WHO has issued the following statement on CBD: “CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.” For more details, see the following report: Cannabidiol Critical Review (WHO)
CBD oil for relaxation
While for medical purposes, the prescription and dosage recommendation of CBD must be made by a physician. You can also easily take advantage of yourself’s positive effects by taking the CBD oil dietary supplement.
As you can buy it as a dietary supplement, CBD oil is a mixture of pure CBD and a natural oil as a carrier. That can be hemp seed oil, flaxseed oil, sunflower seed oil, or coconut oil. The stronger the CBD concentration, the more bitter the oil is. Coconut oil, in particular, helps to improve the taste here.
- CBD oil is freely available as a dietary supplement in Germany (please check local legal regulations) for other countries.
- CBD is not addictive.
- Consumption is safe; usually, there are no side effects.
- Testimonials show that CBD can have anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving effects.
- CBD can support better sleep and thus counteract lack of concentration, irritability, and poor performance.
